ANS - The Authority Notification System
The Authority Notification System Trial is an e-health initiative to provide general practitioners an internet alternative for notifying the HIC of their intent to prescribe an authority pharmaceutical. GP's utilise the internet to notify the HIC of the intent to produce an authority prescription.
The Authority Notification System has tested the government accredited Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) encryption technology to ensure security and confidentiality of electronic transmissions to the HIC for general practitioners.
GPs have benefited not only from some funding to help them get connected to the Internet, but the ANS system is proving a real timesaver for those participating GPs, not needing to phone in for every authority script they produce. There have been a few problems, but GPs seem very pleased with the system.
Generic Paper Trial
The Generic Paper Trial was undertaken by the division, to try to reduce the number of different forms that a GP must complete in their patient consultations. The trial aims to incorporate the more commonly used forms into the medical software packages, to reduce the number of times GPs must change paper in their printers, or complete forms by hand. This was to allow for the capture of data, to identify data elements, and move to an electronic means to submit some of these forms.
It was trailed at two practices - and used only for scripts, pathology requests and letters. If you would like more information about the Generic Paper Trial, contact the division on (03) 5331 6303.
