Community Consultation: Programs and Projects
All BDDGP Program Officers and their relevant Team Leaders will be responsible for ensuring that each program/project has given consideration to the role that community consultation can play and where/when appropriate seeks relevant consultation.
Consultation Considerations
When determining the role community consultation in their program/project, program officers should consider the following:
- What are the expectations of the community consultation? What are the expected outcomes?
- What type of community consultation would be best to achieve this?
- What would be the best model of consultation for this program/project?
- How will information on the engagement outcomes and program/project progress be returned to the community?
Implementation Models
Community consultation could be implemented by:
- Co-opting a community representative to a Steering Committee or Advisory Group;
- Convening a group of community representatives on a single occasion, for discussions relating to a specific topic/need;
- Convening a group of community representatives for consultation at specific milestones during the course of a program/project (ie: Establishment phase; Progress; Conclusion Phase; Review/Evaluation Phase)
