The Role of the Alliance
The Ballarat and District Pharmacy Alliance is a project of the Ballarat and District Division of General Practice. The Ballarat and District Pharmacy Alliance was established in March 2000 via Department of Health and Aged Care funding. In early 2002, the Alliance was successful in securing additional funding from The Pharmacy Guild of Australia via their Rural and Remote Pharmacy Infrastructure Grants Scheme (RRPIGS).
Mission Statement

The Project Aims To:
- develop long term communication strategies
- enhance and promote effective working relationships
- design, implement and evaluate collaborative project activities
- work closely with a Pharmacist Advisory Committee and local pharmacists to design and implement all activities
- facilitate joint educational meetings and focus groups on topics of mutual interest
- engage consumer and community representatives in all facets of project activity
- develop and enhance a shared Information Technology program and mutual support service
- provide strong liaison and co-ordinated working relationships with Pharmacy Peak Bodies and relevant others
RRPIGS Funding - Key Priority Areas:
- Financial support for Continuing Professional Education (CPE)/Accreditation for medication reviews
- Promotion of rural pharmacy
- Documenting and evaluating the role for rural pharmacists in public health and health promotion

BDPA Advisory Committee
The Ballarat and District Pharmacy Alliance Advisory Committee is a representative group of pharmacists working towards the promotion and enhancement of collaborative and cooperative working relationships between Pharmacists and General Practitioners and other health professionals.
