Practice Nurse Update

Important updates on Practice Nurse training and current professional issues.
New programs for practice nurses
In July 2008 AGPN held the first teleconference for the Reference Group established to guide the development of two projects:
- A national Skills Based Orientation for nurses new to general practice
- A national Introduction to general practice nursing program
The national Introduction to general practice nursing program will target nurses who have maintained their registration and are not currently in the nursing workforce who may be interested in working in general practice.
A desktop review has identified existing induction and orientation programs that support the recruitment and retention of practice nurses, and maximise the contribution of PNs to quality and safe patient care.
Two new programs, Introduction to General Practice Nursing and Skills Based Orientation for Nurses New to General Practice will be piloted in two sites and are due for national roll out in January 2009.

New glossy magazine!
APNA is launching its new magazine Primary Times in September, and they are thrilled to be offering a special promotion just for Divisions of General Practice.
Primary Times is a revision of the previous APNA Newsletter. Primary Times will be published quarterly and will include up-to-date, relevant clinical and industry information for Australian General Practice Nurses. Normally available only to members, APNA has offered Divisions of General Practice FREE copies for every member of their local practice nurse network.
I've ordered all practice nurses their very own copy and will distribute them personally once they become available.
Time is running out
APNA practice nurse scholarships are now available and applications close on the 3rd of October 2008. There are 520 CPD scholarships of $1500, and 20 postgraduate scholarships of $10,000.
If you want further information go to the APNA scholarships page, or contact to be put on the scholarships communication email list.
