Any GP who is concerned about unsafe use of medications, particularly narcotics or sedatives, should contact the Director of Nursing or the Unit Manager in the RACF.
GPs are also reminded that a phone order is only valid for 24 hours. You must either send the paper confirmation order or attend the facility within that 24 hour period.
Other issues were raised in the meeting;
- Fluvax supplies have been ordered by all the BHS RACFs
- Hospital discharges to RACFs, especially on Friday afternoon or during the weekend, are a matter of concern
Dr Sutherland is a member of the Aged Care Stakeholder group. He attends the Medication Advisory Committee under the aegis of the Aged Care GP Panels initiative.
