Cancer CPD for Practices - for Free!

Cancer Council Victoria are offering eight Cancer in General Practice modules to GPs and Practice Nurses, worth cat 1 or 2 CPD points (or ACRRM Peer Review Group or CME points).
The modules are flexible; they can be completed by an individual or in a small group setting. If done by an individual or in a practice team, they are worth 4 category 2 points per module. Category 1 points are also available if you run an RACGP-approved Small Group Learning activity using the modules.
Each module takes about 1½ to 2 hours.
The modules incorporate the use of case studies, reflective practice activities, journal articles and evidence-based guideline to stimulate discussion and thought.
The eight module topics are:
- What can general practice do about cancer? Strengthening the role of general practice in cancer prevention, detection and treatment
- Prevention and screening - provides an overview of the main areas where GPs can make a difference to cancer mortality
- Familial cancers and family history - focuses on assessing familial cancer risk
- Bowel cancer - introduces the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
- Prostate cancer - understanding the risks and benefits of screening for prostate cancer
- Cervical cancer - explores changes in the National guidelines
- A whole-of-practice approach to cancer care - enables a practice to assess its systems in relating to cancer care
- Understanding and using cancer services - learn more about local cancer services (this involves meeting with staff from a local cancer service)
