A few handy accreditation tips for your practice.
How to meet criterion 5.3.1 schedule 8 medicines
Practices must ensure that Schedule 8 medicines are stored securely and are only accessed by authorised personnel.
Indicator A requires practices to take all sensible security measures to make sure only authorised personnel can access these medicines. The medicines must be stored in a locked cabinet or safe and fixed to an immovable structure.
Indicator B requires the use of these medicines to be recorded in accordance to state legislation. The RACGP website provides comprehensive fact sheets on the legislation for recording medicine usage for every state and territory.

Insurance premiums up
Medico-legal insurance premiums have increased significantly. When renewing your contract, be aware that there are particular discounts available to practices by meeting certain criteria.
Remember to ask questions and investigate a little when renewing your insurance policies such as:
- Are there any special loading fees attached?
- What discounts are available if I am a member of RACGP/ACRRM?
- Are there any discounts for being accredited?
