Managing Patients with Drug & Alcohol Problems

Managing complexity and co-morbidity in mental health is common in general practice.

For GPs treating patients with drug and alcohol problems, particularly where there are co-morbid psychiatric issues, GP Psych Support provides timely patient management advice within 24 hours from psychiatrists with special interests in drug and alcohol/dual diagnosis.

The service allows GPs to submit a clinical question and request a response in the form of a phone call, fax or via a secure website. Call 1800 200 588 or visit http://www.psychsupport.com.au to lodge a question online. A faxback form is available at the website.

Dr Andrew McDonald is also available for providing on-call phone support on 5320 7888 to GPs with questions relating to Alcohol & other Drugs.

The next A&D Special Interest Group meeting will be held in early 2008. If you are interested in attending or would like further information about the meetings please contact Bianca Slater.
